Roxborough State Park
The Homestead property is located less than 1,000 feet from the boundary of Roxborough State Park. It is well documented that this Red Rocks Wildlife Sanctuary contains most of the same natural elements for which this state park was created. If not for a land deal in the early 1970’s, the Homestead property would no doubt have been placed inside the state park for preservation in 1975.
Roxborough State Park is well known for its honors including:
National Registered Historic Place due to its important archeological properties and resources.
National Area Landmark due to its geologic history of striking rock formations that began its uplift over 300 million years ago. The same rock formation called Fountain Formation resides on the Homestead property.
Documented over 200 artifacts within its boundaries, and it includes over 40 archaeological sites dating back as far as the stone ages (over 2.5 million years ago).
Important Birding area by the Audubon Society with over 145 documented bird species including Golden Eagles.
Key area for mammal breeding due to its climate, geology and abundance of food .
