March 2022
The SOR team continues to gain momentum in our organization and actions as we share below!
The Good News! The first developer, in the fall of 2021 who was seeking to develop fourteen residential homes, informed Roxborough Park Foundation HOA that they would not be pursuing their project. Their Douglas County Pre-Submittal (PS2021-188) will legally expire on 7/26/22.
The Bad News… Another developer, Pomeroy LLC filed a Pre-Submittal (PS2021-281) with Douglas County on 11/30/2021. Pomeroy’s proposal includes changing the zoning from residential to commercial and building a Nordic Spa with a 399 space parking lot in the middle of the red rock formation at the end of Sundown Trail.
On 3/17/22, Pomeroy presented their plan at a “Town Hall” style board meeting for Roxborough Park residents. Over 132 residents were in attendance as well as 65+ viewers signed in on Zoom for the hour and a half hour discussion. Primary concerns from the neighbors included traffic congestion, security, crime and environmental issues that would result from building the facility inside our residential neighborhood.
The Better News! Save Our Rox (SOR) is committed to finding a solution that will work for the neighborhood and the owner of this land by establishing a Conservation Land Trust in perpetuity, so we do not have to continue to worry about future development on this land. An interested party with experience in protecting lands for conservancy has come forward and has agreed to fund an attorney for our needs to assist us to move down the path to help establish a conservation trust. This, coupled with interest from Douglas Land Conservancy, we believe will help us leap forward quickly to establish a tighter focus when we engage with the Homestead Owner to educate and help transition to a Conservation Trust option.
If you have professional resources and/or experiences such as marketing, public relations, public affairs, family offices, conservation foundations, conservation trusts, or you live in our Roxborough housing development and would like to help solicit support among your neighbors to meet our mission to Preserve & Protect the Tranquil and Treasured Red Rocks, please contact the SOR team here.
Thank you for your support and willingness to keep up-to-date on this critical issue within our community. As we continue to execute our strategy, we will reach out to request further donations. Please stay tuned for future communications!
